There is no evidence that people who are unhappy and divorce are any happier that those who stay in an unhappy marriage!
Dr. John Gottman tells us that first time marriages end at a rate of 67% within a 40 year period, and 50% occur within the first 7, thus the proverbial seven year itch. However though you would think that as the song says... Second Time Around, is So much better than the first time. The facts bare out that it simply in not true, in fact those involved in 2nd marriages actually have a 77% Divorce Rate!
Do not make the mistake of thinking that your life, your spouse's, and your children's lives would be better if you divorced your spouse. Dr. Judith Wallerstein one of the nation's top divorce specialists found that after a 25 year study of child of divorce; found that the effects of the divorce had left lasting consequences.
60% of all divorced Americans wish that they had worked harder at the marriages according to fatherhood.org and another study by the Institute for American Values shows that 66% of those who are unhappily married and stayed together despite their frustrations, report that within 5 years their marriages where actually happy again!
I encourage you to seek help... your marriage is worth saving and in most cases salvageable. No of course I AM NOT recommending anyone stay in an unsafe relationship where there is physical or mental abuse on you or your children however I do recommend that you seek help even if your spouse won't!
